Takeda, the company behind the drugs actos is still confident for positive results since different studies in different countries are conflicting.
After completing a three year study on the drugs, European countries namely France and Germany pulled the drug out of the market because of claimed proof of the drugs link to bladder cancer. With this, the said countries also advised doctors to stop prescribing the drug to patients who have type II diabetes.
Although patient who are currently taking the drugs are advised to continue the medication until they have seen their doctors and given alternative because sudden stop of the medication can cause serious health problems.
Even though this is the case in some European countries, actos drugs are still out in the United States market and in other countries. According to Takeda, they are still confident of the good benefits that the drug can give because the FDA in U.S have not release any clear evidence yet regarding the connection of the drug to the said disease. Takeda said that they have not reviewed the study of the European countries and is patiently waiting for the final release of the result in the FDA of the U.S.
Takeda added that the French study lacks data from the FDA which is conducting a long term study on the drug. France just studied the drug in a three year basis while the FDA is conducting a 10 year trial on the drug so Takeda is more interested in FDA’s results than of the French result.
Although the company cannot do anything about the pulling out of their manufactured medicine in the French market, they are still committed to Actos as their product. These conflicts of different studies are now giving the people confusion on what to do and how to deal with the drug.
